Diaper Need
in New York
and what The HopeLine is doing about it
Diaper need is the struggle to provide enough clean diapers for a child to be changed as often as needed. Diapers are a basic need for infants and toddlers and are as essential to their health and well-being as food and shelter.
Diapers are as essential to a baby’s healthy development as a mother’s love.
Fresh diapers impact the physical, mental, and economic well-being of children and their caregivers.

As the first established diaper distribution center in the Bronx,
we exist to intervene in the cycle of poverty by meeting the basic needs of vulnerable families and help empower those living in the Bronx to become more self-sufficient and upwardly mobile.

Babies Need Strong Foundations
Children in low-income families are at greatest risk of suffering the effects of diaper need because many families can’t afford diapers. Current public support programs help some, but young children have additional needs necessary to build a strong foundation for healthy growth and to reach their full potential.
Diapers are as essential to a baby’s healthy development as a mother’s love. Keeping infants and toddlers clean, dry, and healthy is key to building a solid foundation for all children to reach their full potential. But one in two families struggles to provide clean diapers for their baby.
